Run Jupyter notebooks, split the editor, keep runs going

Notebooks open as cells and run on a Jupyter kernel. Split the editor into groups. Agent runs survive a Reload or a crash, and answers look right.

Jupyter notebooks

Open an .ipynb file and it shows as cells, as in VS Code.

  • Run cells on a Jupyter kernel. Choose one with Select Kernel: your project's Python environment, Multilo's own Python, or your system Python. Multilo offers to install what's missing.
  • Interactive charts from plotly, bokeh and vega work, and so do ipywidgets.
  • Edit, add, move and delete cells. Open as Text shows the raw file. A notebook you didn't change saves exactly as it was.
  • Later updates added a Variables view and Existing Jupyter Server… for connecting to a server you already run.

Split the editor

Show two files side by side, or the same file twice. Use Split Editor Right, Open to the Side from a file's menu, or drag a tab to the edge of the editor. Each group has its own tabs and can show any kind of file: a PDF beside your draft, or a notebook beside its data.

Big files and odd files

  • Text files up to 1 GB open and save.
  • Files that aren't text show a short notice instead of a page of symbols, with Open Anyway if you want to look.
  • A Word file now opens straight in its preview. Edit as Markdown in the toolbar makes an editable copy.

Runs that keep going

If the window reloads or crashes while the agent is working, the run keeps going in the background. When the window comes back, the chat picks up where it is, and a command that was running finishes.

Answers that look right

Chat answers now show headings, lists, quotes, tables, footnotes, coloured code and typeset maths properly, and images appear inline. Copy keeps the formatting when you paste into Word or Google Docs, formulas come across as LaTeX, and each table has its own Copy.

Also in this update

  • Rename in place: in the file explorer, the name turns into a text box. Press Ctrl+Alt+F (⌥⌘F on a Mac) to find a file in the tree.
  • First-time setup is clear: when the agent sets up Python the first time, the chat says so, shows each step and how much is left, and notes that it only happens once.
