Dictation in Multilo used to understand English only. It now handles 35 languages, and it's a lot easier to use.
Pick your language
Go to Settings → Speech & Voice → Dictation language and choose from 35 languages, including English, Chinese, Hindi, Spanish, French, Arabic, Bengali, Portuguese, Russian, Urdu, Indonesian, German, Japanese, Turkish, Korean, Vietnamese and Italian. Auto follows Multilo's display language.
Shortcuts
- Ctrl+Alt+D dictates from anywhere in the app.
- Ctrl+I (⌘I on Mac) dictates in the chat box.
- Tap to start and stop, or hold to talk and let go when you're done.
- Ctrl+Alt+R reads the newest reply aloud. Press it again to stop.
On a Mac, use Control+Option in place of Ctrl+Alt.
See what it heard
Words go in where your cursor is. While you speak, the part still being recognised shows in grey and firms up as you go, and a level meter shows that the microphone is actually hearing you.
If the microphone is blocked, Multilo now tells you exactly where to switch it on, with a button that opens your system settings.
On your device
Speech is transcribed by a model that runs on your computer. The first time you dictate, Multilo downloads the model and shows its progress. After that, it's ready straight away.
Fixed along the way
- The microphone could be refused even after you'd allowed it.
- A stray "you" could appear in the chat box.
- The speech model no longer downloads again on every launch.
