Academic writing deserves tools that can show their work

Multilo is a desktop application for research writing. It drafts, cites, and verifies — and everything it produces can be traced back to a real paper you can open yourself.

Vision & mission

What we’re aiming at

Our vision

A research process where using AI never means trusting it blindly — where a researcher can work faster without ever losing the thread back to the source.

The tools got fast before they got accountable. We think the next useful thing in academic software isn’t more fluency, it’s evidence.

Our mission

To build academic writing software that can be checked: every draft, citation, and claim traceable to something real, on a machine the researcher controls.

That means a desktop app rather than a cloud one, sources kept attached to the sentences they support, and a verification step that runs before you submit rather than after review.

Why we built it

A confident wrong citation is worse than no help at all

An AI model can produce a paragraph of academic prose in seconds. It can just as easily produce a citation that looks perfectly real — a plausible author, a plausible journal, a DOI that leads nowhere.

In most writing, a confident mistake is an inconvenience you catch later. In academic work it ends up in a submitted thesis, a peer review, or a published paper, with your name on it. The cost of being wrong is carried by the researcher, not the tool.

Multilo is built around that problem. The goal was never software that writes instead of you — it’s software whose work you can check.

What we believe

Two things we aren’t willing to trade

Your unpublished work stays on your machine

Multilo is a desktop application, not a website. Your drafts, your sources, and your notes live on your own computer.

Unpublished research is the most sensitive thing a researcher owns — an unreviewed result, a thesis chapter, a grant proposal nobody has seen yet. The safest place for it is the machine you’re already sitting at.

Every citation traces back to a real paper

A citation is a promise: that a source exists, and that it says what you claim it says. Multilo keeps the link between what is written and where it came from, so you can open the source and judge it yourself.

If a claim can’t be traced to something real, it has no business in your bibliography — and we would rather tell you that than fill the gap with something that reads well.

What Multilo does

Draft, cite, verify — in one place

One desktop app for Windows, macOS, and Linux, instead of a draft in one tool, a reference manager in another, and a folder of PDFs somewhere else.

Draft

A complete first draft built from your own sources and structured the way academic work is structured — not a blank page and a chat box.

Cite

References formatted across APA, MLA, IEEE, Harvard, and Chicago — and switchable across a whole document without breaking a single one.

Verify

Claims and citations checked back against real sources before you submit, so nothing unsupported reaches your reviewer.

You won’t find user counts or press quotes here. We’d rather show you the product than numbers you have no way to check. If there is something you want to know that isn’t on this page, ask us directly — we’ll answer.

Beyond the app

We teach this work, not just tool it

Multilo Live is our free session series — literature reviews, citation styles, thesis structure, and verifying your sources. The sessions are free, online, and open to anyone; recordings go out to everyone who registers.

Judge it on your own work

The honest test of a research tool is whether it holds up on a real chapter with real sources. Multilo is free to start.
